Households projections in Italy (2030)
Lombardy and Sardinia
Overview
This project examines demographic change and household structure in two Italian regions, Lombardy and Sardinia, with a focus on:
- projected changes in household composition
- population age structure and ageing dynamics
- regional similarities and differences in demographic trends
The analysis combines quantitative demographic projections with integrated interpretation to explore how population ageing interacts with household and family structures at the regional level.
Research objectives
The project aims to:
- analyze projected changes in household composition up to 2030
- examine population age structure as a key demographic variable
- interpret household dynamics in relation to population ageing
- compare regional demographic trajectories through integrated analytical interpretation
Data sources
- Official demographic statistics (ISTAT)
- Aggregated regional-level demographic data
- Secondary data sources only
Note: no personal or sensitive data were collected or processed
Methodology
The project is based on:
- descriptive demographic analysis
- scenario-based projections
- comparative regional analysis
The analysis incorporates:
- regional demographic datasets
- projected household structure data
- population age pyramids by region
Quantitative outputs are presented separately for each region, while comparative insights are developed through integrated interpretation of demographic patterns and projected trends.
Methodological assumptions and projection models are documented in:
Appendix A - Methodology
Key outputs
- Household composition projections by typology
- Population age pyramids for Lombardy and Sardinia
- Comparative interpretation of demographic ageing and family dynamics
Detailed quantitative outputs and graphical visualizations are available in:
Appendix B – Quantitative results and projections
Analytical interpretation and conclusions are presented in:
Appendix C - Interpretation and conclusions
Note: figures and tables are presented in Italian, as the original research was conducted within an Italian academic context.
Research scope and limitations
- Regional focus limited to Lombardy and Sardinia
- Projections based exclusively on available secondary data
- Results should be interpreted as scenario-based demographic estimates rather than predictive forecasts
Skills
- Demographic and quantitative data analysis
- Structured interpretation of population trends
- Comparative analytical reporting
- Research communication and synthesis
Context
Academic research project developed during university coursework.
Notes on language and materials
The original analyses, figures, and tables were produced in Italian within the context of the original research project.
